The plot was great, the characters were well developed, and a good continuation from the short novella that introduces this series. What I couldn't stand were the typos and grammatical mistakes which shows poor presentation and proof reading.I realize the novella was written after this book so it was hard to grasp . . . Where Titanna's husband was because he was never mentioned. They had such a bright future yet all we see of him is when Morgan is born. Is he dead? And what about Titanna's twin sister? She's never mentioned, either. Was this neice her daughter? If so, she lives close enough to visit. . . So where is Trina?
I find it had to understand how Morgan's siblings ignored him, his situation, and went on with their lives. They were all older, they had memories of him, must have had some interaction. And what of their father's influence? They're like these mindless drones, totally uninteresting. I assume their mother had a lot to do with severing Morgan from them.
I enjoyed the novella but the switch from this selfless giving Tatianna who is now power corrupt and hateful to her own chid, selfishly pursuing her own interests and ends just because she feels that is the right thing to do. . . The drastic switch was harsh. There wasn't any middle ground as to why she changed. How she became so self centered. She was portrayed as having no friends, family, or loved ones anymore - Just her job as a High Priestess. She's on a downward spiral heading for destruction.
SPOILERS
There was no mystery as to Morgan's powers. The story is written so we know his future wife was the key. No guessing. I skipped partway thru the book because it was predictable. The ending was satisfying, no cliffhangers. I did wonder how Morgan would support his wife as he never went to school, had no training, no interaction in society. He could fall back on his healing as a profession but that's forbidden. I assume she'll support him with her paintings and teach him about society. His ignorance and innocence could set him up for a big fall. He believes in the goodness in others, hasn't been taught any different. He needs to wise up and quickly. Then there's learning to control his powers . . . His mother couldn't. While the ending was conclusive, there were those thoughts of what life would be like for Morgan. And what will happen to his mom. Obviously this story needs a follow-up.
My review is based on the ties between the novella and this book. Yes the jump is decades and characters change. What was hard for me to accept is there weren't explanations as to why Tatianna, the main force in this story, was so changed. - Dan's Wife

Magic In The Storm A Paranormal Regency Romance eBook Meredith Bond Reviews
Lady Vallentyn rules the Vallen of London and her family with a firm hand. Her youngest son, Morgan, is the seventh child of the seventh generation of Vallen and descendant of Morgan le Fey. He was supposed to be a girl. According to Lady Vallentyn, this was the first of Morgan's many mistakes. Morgan is nearly content to live a life of exile until he meets a young lady by the name of Adriana Hayden who captures his heart.
Ms. Bond's world of the Vallen is one full of magic. In her words, "Do you see magic all around you? I do. There are some things that, to me, just can't be explained to my satisfaction. [sic]." There are references to many historical figures and these references just go to reinforce the credibility of the world of the Vallen. She has beautifully crafted this backdrop for her romance between Morgan Vallentyn and Adriana Hayden. It is meticulously plotted and populated with enjoyable characters.
Throughout the story, Ms. Bond's descriptions not only bring the reader into the story, but bring the story into the real world. I want to put in a quote from the book at this point, but I dare not as to possibly give away part of the plot. Her rich descriptions also bring the characters' emotions off the page. As a reader, when I begin to get caught up in the paranormal side of the story, Ms. Bond brings me back to the romantic side.
If you are a fan of the fantasy, historical, or romance stories, this book is for you. This is the first of the Vallen series by Meredith Bond. The story continues in "Storm on the Horizon." Morgan Vallentyne is a descendant of the great Morgan le Fey being the seventh child of the seventh child he should have more magic than anyone to date, He doesn't seem to however and all because he had the nerve to be born a boy. His mother is so upset she hates Morgan just for that fact and mistreats him his entire life.
Adriana Hayden lost her parents young and has been in the hands of her power hungry, political status climbing guardian, Lord Devaux, ever since. She is an amazing painter and it is her one true passion and Lord Devaux uses her love of painting to help control her and force her to do his will.
Morgan and Adriana meet when Lord Devaux arranges for Adriana to marry Morgan's older brother Lord Vallentyne. Adriana wanders in the woods on the estate of Lord Vallentyne and comes across Morgan in the cottage in the woods his mother has forced him to live in.
Morgan and Adriana have instant chemistry but between the 19th century morals and her fear of repercussion from Lord Devaux, Adriana flees from her feelings for Morgan back to London. The adventure continues when Morgan manages to escape his mothers magic to chase after the only thing that makes him truly happy, Adriana!
This book is a fantastic mix of the paranormal and a regency romance! It has action, excitement, magic, love, hate, social climbing, power grabbing and even a part in the story for Lord Byron the poet. The mix of magic and regency blend into a beautiful story that has you fall in love with Morgan and Adriana and despise Morgan's mother and Adriana's guardian Lord Devaux.
I highly recommend this book
