This is a mess. Putting aside the typos that should have been caught before publishing, the plot moves at a random pace while the characters bicker. What’s worse is they all end up sounding the same. There was no individuality in their voice. Without names and descriptions to set each person apart they end up being androgynous clones who all share the same love of banter. The murders get solved as an after thought. Complete ‘deus ex machina’ except it’s an archangel that essentially waves his hand and makes everything good.
Dead horses beaten: (shoes, virus levels, filial hijinks, fire ants,...) at least 7
Avoid this at all costs. I enjoy witty repartee, but I insist novels have more than just banter.
This series has devolved into crap. There are some interesting ideas and a fascinating world trapped under garbage dialogue. I keep hoping the next one will be better. Hope is fading fast.

Cheetahs Never Win A Magical Romantic Comedy with a body count edition by RJ Blain Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Wow, another good book by Miss Blaine! I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this book. You never see a book about cheetah lycanthropes. It accomplished its goal of being interesting and entertaining. Please read and you'll see why I am so happy with this story. Enjoy!
Each new magical rom com (with a body count) becomes my favorite, and this one is no exception. I generally can’t stop grinning and chuckling as I read. The body count here is a bit higher than other books, but the ending is ultimately satisfying. This book has a great cast of characters, especially main characters’ brothers Joe and Mark - I liked them both so much I want them to have their own book. As usual the parents lend a ton of humor to the conversations. And Blain’s magical rom com world has been well developed over several books. If you enjoy sass, snark, quirk, and always humor (sometimes leavening darker/deeper emotions), set in an interesting plot with good main characters and supporting cast, try this book! Or any of the other magical rom coms, they’re all worth reading.
To me, this was a good entry in this series, (although you don't have to read them in order). Her characters are always different from each other, and her plotlines are never predictable. The male cheetahs made me laugh. Her characters do cuss sometimes, so if that bothers you, this is not for you. Her characters stay in character, and their actions are always reasonable in light of their personalities and the story. There are a few typos, which didn't bother me. I expect to enjoy it even more on the reread, as I have her other books.
I started this series with Whatever for Hire and then Proceeded to binge read everything the author has written under any name. This series is great fun. Funny. Snarky. Completely outrageous. The mythology is all over the place but consistent while including everything including the kitchen sink. While I usually prefer a more focused mythology these books are fun. Like cotton candy. Sweet, fluffy, outrageous, and probably bad for me but I can’t stop reading them.
The storyline of Cheetah Never Wins was definitely darker than any of the previous books in the series. I enjoyed this tremendously. There was a lot of internal dialogue in this book compare to others but heck I enjoyed this. I love when an author steps out a bit of the series mold and takes a chance. This was definitely it. And heck i love me some F-bombs and there nothing wrong with that. Some of these other reviews are harsh for reasons i dont understand. I enjoyed the plotline and pacing of this book. Now the subject matter is darker than normal but that doesnt mean there is not humor found in this book. There is. RJ Blain ending i thought fit thenot line well and i was not disappointed or was “utter crap” as another reviewer stated. It fit perfectly in the world that this story takes place.
It was a dang good read for me and I enjoyed this different story in this world.
I really love RJ Blain's Comedies with a Body Count. Typically, they are brimming with droll humor, quirky character development, and an exciting and speedy plot line. The world she has created for this series is well fleshed out, completely original, and fun. Bonus they tend to be free of pornographic sex scenes. Lovely!
This addition to the series was not her best and not her worst, just average.
I gave this a 5 star rating for originality, humor, and a gut wrenching plotline that kept me reading.
However, it loses 1 star because, unlike in past books, this one had a heroine that reminded me of an overly hormonal 14 year old girl. That's all I really got from her it was unengaging.
It also loses 1 star for language. RJ Blain always has some cursing in her books, but at one point I counted the f word 4 times on the page. I recognize that there are people that speak this way, but they sound horribly uneducated. When it is in writing, the author loses the opportunity to draw the reader in with enthralling language. It's just poor writing, and RJ Blain usually does a much better job.
So why 4 stars? I added 1 star because I loved that the main characters had sex behind closed doors. I loathe reading porn, and this book was free of it. Wahoo!
If you're looking for a fun urban fantasy series with uncontrollable humor, this is the series for you. Just don't start with this one. Read it after you've read the others and fallen in love with the series. Enjoy!
RJ Blain usually focuses on her main character, in this case Aaron, who tells the story. Sometimes I have trouble with the secondary characters in the story and their motivations. Sometimes the secondary characters, such as Sassy, her father, Aaron's brother, also come alive, sometimes not. Aaron and his viewpoint held my attention so well in Cheetahs that this question didn't cross my mind. I really liked this story, and I'm really glad I read it. I hope you enjoy it, too.
